Sesame Chicken

This is an easy recipe to make, provided you can find good Mirin, which is harder than it seems like it should be.

Sesame Chicken

1 large chicken breast, cut into bite-sized chunks
4 tsp fresh ginger, grated
2 Tbsp Mirin
1/4 c Japanese soy sauce
1/4 c Sake
1 tsp sesame oil
3/4 c raw sesame seeds
Oil for frying

  • Add all the ingredients, except the fry oil and sesame seeds into a bowl and mix in the chicken
  • Cover and refrigerate for a few hours, or overnight
  • About an hour before cooking, put the chicken on a plate with a paper towel below and above it to remove as much liquid as possible
  • Coat each piece in sesame seeds
  • Heat the fry oil to 350 F
  • Cook for about 4 minutes

Notes

Serve with rice, such as Nanatsuboshi(my favorite short grain) or whatever you like and salad with thin egg noodles with sesame miso dressing.

I used peanut oil to fry, but avocado, grapeseed or any oil with a high smoke point will do.

I think this would also be good if the chicken and marinade were sautéed together.
